Donald Trump Gives Elon Musk the Green Light to Take Over TikTok?

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is open to tech billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the X social media platform, buying the popular Chinese app TikTok.

TikTok has recently faced US legal restrictions when the Joe Biden administration asked the video-sharing app company to divest its ownership from China's Bytedance or ban it in the US.

However, Donald Trump, a day before being inaugurated as US President for the second time, managed to postpone the TikTok ban for US citizens and bring some joy to the app's hardcore users.

The executive order directed his attorney general to delay the implementation of the law for 75 days.

In a bid to save its operations in the US, Trump on Monday floated a 50-50 partnership between the US and Bytedance, China, although he did not provide further details on the implementation.

The TikTok ban was approved due to concerns that the Chinese government could exploit the app to spy on Americans or secretly influence US public opinion through data collection and content manipulation.

Last week, news about Chinese officials selling the company's operations in the United States to Elon Musk was strongly denied.
