Malaysia needs to explore new fields such as blockchain and not just rely on the microchip and semiconductor industries alone.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that if we do not explore new fields, it will cause the country to lag behind in the field.

He added that the semiconductor industry in Penang is quite old, but if we are not ready to explore new fields, we will be left behind.

Malaysia must also build comprehensive strength so that it can help us revive the economy, he said during his speech at the Launching Ceremony of the Malaysia Economic Forum 2025.

Further commenting, Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, also touched on the visits of several foreign leaders such as Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto who arrived yesterday and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba today.

According to him, among the things discussed with Prabowo was to lift the economic strength of both countries.

The meeting with Ishiba was on the issue of investment, trade and energy transition, which is considered to be very critical now.

He described the Asean-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025 as one that should find ways and efforts to resolve various issues and not marginalize other countries.
