Nvidia’s investment in Malaysia is a key factor in the country’s position in the global semiconductor industry.

With an investment of RM21.2 billion, Malaysia is strengthening its role in the chip supply chain, especially in chip design and packaging.

Professor Chris Miller of Tufts University stressed that although Nvidia is the world’s most valuable chip company, it does not manufacture its own chips.

Instead, it focuses on designing specialized chips, especially for artificial intelligence (AI).

This will shape the future of the technology industry, as major companies such as Microsoft, Alibaba, and Facebook are now creating their own chips to improve AI performance.

Miller also stressed that Malaysia’s expertise in chip packaging and assembly puts it in a strong position to benefit from this industry.

However, as the sector grows, competition will increase, prompting companies to invest more in research and development (R&D).

The semiconductor industry is becoming increasingly strategic due to geopolitical factors, Malaysia must be prepared to face economic and political challenges to maintain a strong position in this industry.
