Port Klang Ranks Up to 10th Busiest in the World

Port Klang has become the 10th busiest port in the world in 2024.


Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced the achievement at the 17th Annual CGS International Malaysia Corporate Day 2025.


While the official ranking is still in progress, internal calculations have confirmed the ranking.


The port’s ranking continues to improve compared to previous years, moving from 13th place in 2022 to 11th place in 2023.


The port saw a container volume of 14.06 million TEU in 2023, reflecting a growth of 6.3% compared to the previous year.


The first seven months of 2024 recorded a bigger jump of 25.6%, handling 8.4 million TEU.


The authorities are estimating a 5.5% increase for 2024, targeting a volume of 14.83 million TEU.


The government has invested in upgrading Port Klang and Port Tanjung Pelepas, ensuring greater efficiency and increased trade flows.


In addition, the government also plans to build a large port worth RM28 billion on Carey Island which is scheduled for completion in 2060, the port is expected to be able to accommodate 30 million TEUs.
