Ready to Lead Asean, Malaysia Begins First ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat

Malaysia has made efforts to enhance its diplomatic presence as the 2025 ASEAN Chair by holding several high-profile bilateral meetings in conjunction with the Asean Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM) at the Langkawi International Convention Centre.


Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who led the meeting, held productive discussions with his counterparts from Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore on Sunday.


The meetings focused on strategies to strengthen bilateral relations and accelerate momentum towards the Asean Community Vision 2045, with various reactions and suggestions from the countries involved.


Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son praised Malaysia's leadership and pledged full support for Malaysia's role as the ASEAN Chair.


Meanwhile, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stressed the importance of harmonious relations in resolving bilateral issues.


Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan from Singapore also highlighted initiatives that bring tangible benefits to the region, instilling confidence in Malaysia's leadership.


With Asean's strategic future increasingly clear, the focus is now on Malaysia's ability to bring about change, and these initial steps demonstrate rapid momentum in creating stronger cooperation at the regional level.
