The opening of 2025 saw oil price changes that occurred alternately every week, with RON97 and diesel recording increases.
Starting from 16 to 22 January 2025, retail oil prices increased again, reflecting the surge in global oil prices.
For RON95, the price remained stable at RM2.05 without any change.
However, the price of RON97 increased by 5 sen to RM3.38 per litre, after recording consecutive increases of 3 sen in the first and second weeks of 2025, starting at RM3.22.
Diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia also recorded an increase of 5 sen, reaching RM3.08 per litre, after increasing by 3 sen in the first week and 5 sen in the second week of 2025, starting at RM2.95.
On the other hand, diesel prices in Sabah and Sarawak remained at RM2.15 per litre.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF) explained that this increase was due to the surge in world oil prices.
However, diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia still remain low compared to the floating price in June 2024 (RM3.35).
The government will continue to monitor the global oil market and adjust prices to ensure the well-being of the people is maintained.
