TikTok users in the United States (US) are now looking for alternatives after the US government decided to block the TikTok application in the country.
Among those who quickly gained attention is Xiaohongshu, or also known as RedNote in English.
This application is popular among young Chinese women, has now gained much attention and gained popularity by reaching the number 1 position in the US Apple App Store, with the hashtag #tiktokrefugee.
RedNote was launched in 2013 in Shanghai by Charlwin Mao and Miranda Qu, an application that combines features on Instagram and Pinterest.
This application focuses more on fashion, beauty, food and travel, like TikTok, this application also allows users to shop for products.
It is also equipped with a “check-in” feature, where people visit places just for social media photos.
However, there is one drawback to this platform, which is in terms of language.
Since this application was initially only used by those who spoke Chinese, there was no automatic translation into other languages, including English.
Buying and selling transactions and product delivery are also done in Chinese.
Despite RedNote gaining more attention, experts believe that this trend is only temporary and they do not see it lasting for long.
