The crypto world was shocked when trading platform Bybit became the victim of the largest digital heist in history, with $1.5 billion (RM7.1 billion) of Ethereum disappearing into the hands of mysterious hackers last Friday.

Bybit revealed that the attack began when hackers managed to exploit a security flaw before transferring the funds to an unknown address.

As a result, the price of Ethereum fell by around 4% on the same day, reaching $2,641.41 (RM12,500) each before stabilizing.

To track down the missing funds, Bybit is offering a lucrative reward of 10% of the amount successfully recovered up to $140 million (RM700 million)!

Bybit CEO, Ben Zhou, assured users that the platform is still safe, with their assets guaranteed “1:1”.

However, with 350,000 withdrawal requests made simultaneously, many are wondering if Bybit can survive this shock?

Meanwhile, speculation is starting to arise about whether the mastermind behind this work is the Lazarus Group from North Korea, or is there someone else behind it?

Regardless, the incident is another blow to the crypto world, which has just come to a standstill after Trump promised to make the US the “crypto capital of the world.”
