OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, is reportedly in talks to raise up to $40 billion, with SoftBank Group leading the talks.
The investment would value OpenAI to $260 billion, up significantly from $157 billion just a few months ago.
Sources revealed that SoftBank could contribute between $15 billion and $25 billion, potentially making it the AI giant’s largest investor.
The fund is expected to help OpenAI strengthen its AI development by improving infrastructure, finding new talent and collecting data.
The race in AI has become increasingly intense, especially after the launch of DeepSeek, which attracted investors due to its lower cost compared to OpenAI.
A $100 billion merger between OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle was announced last week, focusing on building data centers in the United States (US).
