The RM2.2 billion investment from Chinese carmaker Chery is set to shake up Malaysia’s automotive industry!
In a bold strategic move, Chery, together with Legenda Beringin Holding Sdn Bhd and Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd, have signed an agreement to develop the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Hulu Selangor.
This mega project will be the new heart of the Beringin High Tech Auto (HTA) Valley which covers 800 acres, with construction expected to be completed in 2026.
With an initial capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year, the plant’s operations are expected to surge to 300,000 units to rival regional automotive hubs!
Not just a regular assembly operation, the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park will also produce combustion engine vehicles, plug-in hybrids, EVs, and energy-efficient technologies.
This positions Selangor as a serious competitor in the Asian automotive industry.
The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, marking a historic moment for the state.
With this major step, is Selangor really on its way to becoming the ‘Detroit of Asia’? Or is it just another grand project on paper?
