The Chinese government in a statement on Tuesday launched an anti-trust investigation into Google over alleged anti-monopoly practices.

The country's State Administration for Market Regulation said it would begin an investigation into the tech giant for alleged violations of China's anti-monopoly laws.

The statement closed with China announcing additional tariffs on selected US goods.

China's Finance Ministry said it would impose a 15% tariff on imports of coal and liquefied natural gas from the US starting February 10.

It will also impose a 10% higher duty on American crude oil, farm equipment and certain vehicles.

Google faces regulatory scrutiny in several countries including the US.

The company previously lost a lawsuit in August 2020 filed by the US government over allegations of monopolizing the internet's general search space.

Google is also being investigated by the UK Competition and Markets Authority due to it having strategic market status under new UK law.
