The government's decision to raise the minimum paddy price from RM1,300 to RM1,500 per metric ton has attracted the attention of millionaire Syed Mokhtar Albukhary to also help farmers who are facing financial problems.
Anwar stated that after discussing the matter with Syed Mokhtar, the businessman agreed to provide additional funds to support farmers, which will be distributed as soon as possible.
This is not the first time Syed Mokhtar has gone to the field to help farmers, where he previously allocated RM10 million in 2022 and RM50 million in 2023 for farmers.
Despite the price adjustment, the PeSawah farmers' group believes it is still not enough, demanding additional incentives from the government.
They also stressed that the price of local white rice has remained unchanged at RM2.60 per kilogram since 2008.
To ease the burden, the government will allocate RM150 million for subsidies, ensuring that rice is affordable for the people.
