US President Donald Trump has opted to take an ‘I don’t care’ approach, ignoring a European crackdown that seeks to retaliate with tougher tariffs on US food products, including soybeans.
During a leisurely visit to the Daytona 500, Trump calmly insisted that the sanctions would only hurt Europe itself, while reiterating his seemingly intransigent “retaliatory” policy.
The European Commission is expected to consider tougher import restrictions next week, with a primary target being US crops treated with pesticides not approved in the EU.
The move comes as tensions have escalated following Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminium and new taxes on cars and technology.
