Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, insisted that the company, during an event in Paris, was closing down any potential sale.
The response was in response to reports that Elon Musk had made a $97.4 billion offer to acquire OpenAI.
Speaking at the Paris AI Summit technology gathering, Altman stressed that OpenAI’s ultimate goal is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits everyone.
He reinforced this position by reiterating that the company would not entertain any takeover bids.
Musk, who is also the co-founder of OpenAI, reportedly made the bid as the company sought investment and shifted towards a profitable business.
Chris Lehane, chief executive of OpenAI, said that the attempted acquisition stemmed from his own company’s own difficulty keeping up with OpenAI’s progress.
Altman compared the rapid evolution of the AI industry to past revolutionary moments, such as the rise of the internet and the industrial age, outlining the huge opportunities ahead.
