The price of coconut milk that continues to soar to RM20 per kilogram, forcing many traders and customers to count every drop!
This sudden increase is due to the increasingly expensive cost of imported coconuts since last year, forcing traders to raise food prices, even though customers are decreasing.
According to a report by Malay Mail, a trader shared his complaint that the price of coconut milk, which was previously RM16 per kilogram, is now increasing to RM20, forcing customers to switch to boxed coconut milk.
More worryingly, food traders such as sellers of kuih, nasi lemak, lemang, and rendang are now caught in a dilemma.
Raise food prices, customers flee but maintain prices, traders lose!
With the 'lawas' summer affecting local coconut yields only adding to the problem, FAMA is trying to guarantee a supply of 640 tons of coconut milk per month from Indonesia, Sabah, and Sarawak for Ramadan.
However, the question is, is this the best way to stop the price of coconut milk from continuing to soar?
