Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that Malaysia will remain neutral in the escalating tariff war between the United States (US) and China, Mexico, and Canada.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, he stressed that Malaysia will take a balanced approach to maintain good relations with all major economic powers and protect the country from the effects of this trade conflict.

Although Malaysia is seen as having close ties with China, Brazil, and South Africa, Anwar stressed that the country’s involvement with the US remains strong.

This trade war erupted after US President Donald Trump ‘blasted’ new tariffs, causing China, Mexico, and Canada to respond with firm action.

Although Malaysia is not included in the target list, its close trade relations with the affected countries still put it in a risky situation.

However, Anwar is positive that economic diversification and internal development will ensure Malaysia remains stable in this global uncertainty.
