Recently, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced a grand plan for Sarawak to spend RM6 billion by 2030 on a rural water supply project.

However, not all of these funds will actually be used to bring water to rural areas.

RM1.1 billion of which will be used to replace old pipes that often break.

This means that almost 20% of the entire budget will be used to repair old infrastructure, not to supply water to new areas.

If the majority of the budget is spent on repairing old problems, how much will actually be used to ensure a more stable and widespread water supply?

The Sarawak Premier explained that this project has already started with RM4 billion and an additional RM600 million in the 13th Malaysia Plan with the construction of a new water treatment plant also included in this grand plan.

However, the people are wondering, is this RM6 billion really enough to solve the rural water problem, or should the people be prepared for more allocations in the future?

At the same time, Sarawak continues to invest in infrastructure development.

The RM600 million Batang Lassa Bridge has been completed, and next year, the Batang Paloh Bridge will be built to connect Pulau Bruit to Serdeng, opening up road access to the entire Rajang Valley.
