The tariffs raised by US President Donald Trump have not only sparked global tensions but also ignited the flames of a trade war.
No country has been spared from these crazy tariffs, including the European Union (EU), which has imposed a 25% tariff on aluminum and steel, prompting the EU and Brussels to immediately plan retaliation.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the tariff move as “unfounded” and promised to respond with “firm and proportionate measures.”
EU Trade Chief Maroš Šefčovič said in a statement that his party is currently assessing plans to retaliate against the tariffs, which could also impose tariffs on US goods similar to those imposed in 2018.
However, some MEPs, such as Jörgen Warborn, believe that negotiations should be prioritized because retaliatory war will not benefit anyone.
