Volkswagen Hopes Tariff Talks Are Still Open

Shortly after US President Donald Trump dropped a 'tariff bomb' on Mexico, Canada and China, the famous automotive company Volkswagen released a statement that it is formulating a strategy to deal with the impact of this new policy.

The company's main focus is the Puebla plant in Mexico which is Volkswagen's largest production center, producing more than 350,000 cars by 2023, including popular models such as the Jetta, Tiguan and Taos.

Now, with a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% on Chinese goods, Volkswagen may be forced to raise prices, reduce production, or reassess its investments outside of Mexico.

In an official statement, Volkswagen stressed that it still hopes that trade talks can avoid conflicts that could destabilize the industry.

This uncertainty raises a big question: will the 'America First' policy ultimately make Americans pay more for the same car, just with a new price sticker?
