Penang residents are now facing a 50% increase in parking charges aimed at reducing congestion.
From 40 sen to 60 sen per half hour, RM6 up to RM9 per day, at this rate, parking is no longer just parking, but an investment!
The Mayor, Datuk A. Rajendran, claimed that this increase ensures that more drivers get parking spaces without having to wait long.
But what about those who have to park every day to work?
Is this a solution or just inconveniences ordinary users, while the wealthy continue to be free?
Many are questioning the appropriateness of this action, especially when other proposals such as a reward system for public transport users, cheap park-and-ride, or ride-sharing are seen as lacking.
Isn’t it better to find creative solutions than simply raising prices and hoping people stop driving?
