Ant Group, a company backed by Jack Ma, has found a way to train AI models using Chinese-made chips that can reduce costs by 20%.
While the company still uses chips from Nvidia for its artificial intelligence (AI) functions, they are not entirely dependent on Nvidia but also use chips from Alibaba, Huawei and AMD.
The technique, called Mixture of Experts (MoE), divides tasks into smaller parts, making the process more efficient and overcoming the problem of relatively expensive training costs.
Ant's AI models, called Ling-Plus and Ling-Lite, have performed well against several other global AI models in certain tests.
The public can experience the power of Ant's AI models since they have made their AI "open source", and the company also plans to integrate their AI models into the healthcare and financial sectors.
