President Trump's action to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum products from Canada that began on Wednesday has invited retaliatory tariffs from the country.
Canada, the largest supplier of aluminum and steel to the United States (US), took the same step by imposing tariffs on the United States (US) of C$29.8 billion (RM91.18 billion) in retaliatory tariffs on the US effective Thursday morning.
This was revealed by the Canadian Minister of Finance, when Trump further increased tariffs on steel and aluminum.
These tariffs will target C$12.6 billion worth of steel products and C$3 billion worth of aluminum products as well as additional US imports worth C$14.2 billion for a total of C$29.8 billion.
Previously, Ontario had announced electricity tariffs on America before Trump threatened to double the steel and aluminum tariffs to 50%.
Ontario then stopped implementing the tariffs and Trump maintained the 25% steel and aluminum tariffs that took effect on Wednesday.
