China ‘Slaps’ Canada With $2.6 Billion Tariffs! Signal of New Trade War?

China has finally retaliated against Canada by imposing tariffs on more than $2.6 billion worth of agricultural and food products, after Ottawa first imposed high taxes on EVs, steel, and aluminum from China since last October.

The move opens a new arena in the global trade war that has also been triggered by tariff pressure from the US.

However, there is one strange thing – canola, a major Canadian commodity that is being investigated by China for alleged dumping, is not included in this new tariff list.

Is Beijing signaling that the door to negotiations is still open? Or is this just a strategy to make Canada more nervous?

With 100% tariffs on mustard seed oil, animal feed products, and peas, and 25% on seafood and pork, China is clearly sending a strong message that it will not sit idly by.

Experts believe that Beijing is not just retaliating, but also warning Canada not to follow America’s lead too much in trade policy.

With trade relations increasingly tense, the big question now arises – is this just a bluff or the start of a more intense trade war?
