EU Delays ‘Whiskey War’, Offers Last-Minute Talks?

Despite being prepared to impose hefty tariffs on American products like whiskey and motorcycles, the EU has finally had to pull the brakes at the last minute.

The €26 billion ($28 billion) worth of tariffs that were due to take effect on April 1 have now been postponed to April 13, giving way to last-minute negotiations.

The move comes just as Donald Trump is preparing to announce new tariffs on April 2, which he has dubbed “American Liberation Day.”

The US president has previously been vocal in criticising the EU’s trade policy, accusing the bloc of unfair taxes and tariffs on American products.

In response to Washington’s steel and aluminium tariffs, the EU had previously planned to retaliate by imposing higher tariffs on US exports, including whiskey, motorcycles and agricultural products like raspberries and soya.

However, with this delay, a big question arises – does the EU really want to compromise, or is this just the calm before the tariff storm hits?
