After two decades of waiting, the state government has finally received an increase in per capita grants and not a little, but 25%!

The 2025 National Finance Council meeting on Thursday agreed to increase the per capita grant to the state government by 25%, increasing the amount from RM109 million to RM548 million.

This is the first increase since 2002, said the Prime Minister's Press Secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, in a daily briefing at the Prime Minister's Office.

Overall, the total federal government grants to the states now reach RM9.8 billion for 2025, compared to RM9.3 billion last year.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that this is a step to ensure that the state government is able to serve the people better.

He stressed that the relationship between the federal and state governments must remain intact for the well-being of the people after chairing the annual meeting of the National Finance Council today, which was also attended by the Menteri Besar and Chief Minister.

The question is, is this money enough to cover state development or is it just 'waiting for the next increase in 20 years'?
