Japan to Impose 700% Tariff on Rice Imports?

Japan is expected to be the latest target of tariffs by President Donald Trump following Japan's excessive rice tariffs.

The Trump administration, through White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, revealed the matter through a chart showing the tariff rates of various countries, including Japan's charges on beef and dairy imports.

Trump supports fair trade and wants other countries to apply the same policies to US goods.

Japan is said to have not been granted an exemption despite trying to negotiate.

While Japan does not impose a tax on rice imported through its government-run system, rice imported privately faces a levy of ¥341 per kilogram.

Some reports have said the rice tariff could be more than 700%, but the Japanese government has not confirmed the exact figure.
