The United States is now playing the ‘pacifist’ role in the Ukraine-Russia war by announcing a temporary agreement to stop fighting in the Black Sea and ensure safe shipping lanes.

But, as always, there is a price to pay.

Signed in Saudi Arabia, the agreement is not just a peace gesture but more of a geopolitical chess game.

The Kremlin has insisted it will only abide by the ceasefire if Western sanctions on Russian food and fertilizer exports are lifted, a demand that Ukraine has vehemently rejected.

Trump, who hailed the deal as a “global success,” has hinted that the US is considering Russia’s terms.

Meanwhile, Kyiv remains skeptical, warning that any movement of Russian warships in the western Black Sea could bring a new round of tensions to the region.

With both sides still launching drone and missile strikes, the success of the ceasefire hinges on one key question – will the lifting of sanctions be the price of peace?
