Malaysia has finally received approval to export local coconuts to China's largest market.
This good news comes after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese President Xi Jinping was agreed upon by both sides.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu made a statement regarding the negotiations between Malaysia and the Republic of China that will continue to be strengthened for the sake of strategic trade relations.
This agreement is a historic moment for the country's agricultural sector when the MoU exchange session between the two countries took place.
Furthermore, the signing of the Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Exporting Fresh Coconuts from Malaysia to China also involves the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC).
The importance of the memorandum is important to ensure the competitiveness of local fresh coconuts in the Chinese market and strengthen the local coconut industry globally, in addition to proving the government's commitment in boosting the country's agricultural exports.
The Malaysian government remains committed to ensuring that local agricultural products find a place in the international market, while also developing the country's economy.
