Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour stated that monetary policy cannot solve the tariff trade war issue.

He informed that only strong investment activities and stable trading partners can help strengthen the country's economy.

He also expected that the ringgit's volatile movements would continue and would be ready to act to curb excessive volatility.

Policymakers are also assessing the risk of the impact of tariffs on the country's economy which is likely to show signs of slowdown, with industrial production in January coming in lower than expected

BNM is now focusing on achieving price stability and sustainable economic growth.

At the same time, they are also trying to double down on structural reforms to strengthen the Malaysian economy.

The central bank is also regularly in touch with exporters to encourage foreign exchange activities.
