The tension in the tariff war between United States (US) President Donald Trump and the Republic of China is getting worse, causing chaos in the global economic market.
This situation arose after Trump retaliated with a 145% tariff on China following their opposition to the US.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the federal and state governments must be prepared to face the uncertainties caused by Trump's tariffs while attending the Special Sarawak State Development Meeting.
The meeting was attended by dignitaries, namely Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as well as federal and state leaders.
Anwar urged that a structured plan be urgently put in place to strengthen the country's economy from being affected by shocks such as the tariff issue.
Anwar also presented the Sarawak Development Bank tax incentives, the Sarawak Gas Roadmap and development projects in the state of Sarawak to strengthen the state's economy and benefit Malaysians.
Overall, Trump's trade war is affecting Southeast Asian countries with tariffs ranging from 10 to 48 percent, including Malaysia and Brunei, which are each subject to 24 percent.
