The tariff war between the United States (US) and China is escalating worldwide, slowing down economic markets.
The situation has prompted the government to hold amicable negotiations, with Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz set to travel to Washington for two days starting April 24, 2025.
Zafrul's visit to Washington is aimed at discussing the trade tariffs imposed on Malaysia.
Malaysia also took the opportunity to meet with interested companies to explain the country's stance and support US industries.
Zafrul's presence was also accompanied by the Deputy Secretary-General (Trade) of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa along with other ministry officials.
Zafrul explained that the negotiations were not only related to tariffs, but also Malaysia's role in the Asia-US supply chain and ASEAN's stance on the issue of trade tariffs.
Overall, ASEAN is committed to protecting regional economic interests from tariff wars that affect the entire Southeast Asian region to achieve strong trade relations.
